FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do I check you are registered with Dogs QLD as a Breeder?
To check if a breeder is a registered DOGS QLD breeder, go to the Dogs Qld website: https://dogsqueensland.org.au/Breeders/check-registered and enter their breeder's prefix or DOGS QLD Membership Number and either their phone number or email address. OR Contact Dogs Qld on Telephone (07) 32522661 during office hours. By allowing you to check the contact details of registered breeders, Dogs QLD hopes to reduce the risk of purchasing from non-registered breeders who may fraudulently advertise litters for sale using the prefixes of DOGS QLD registered breeders. Also, ask the breeder to show you their DOGS QLD Membership Card as an additional check.
  • Who are DOGS AUSTRALIA and DOGS QUEENSLAND?
Dogs Australia, previously known as the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC), is Australia's peak body advocating for preserving purebred dogs through ethical breeding practices. It is also responsible for promoting, showing, trialling, obedience, and other canine-related activities, such as owning temperamentally and physically sound purebred dogs across Australia. Dogs Australia is the umbrella body representing the canine-controlling bodies in each State, such as Dogs Queensland. https://dogsaustralia.org.au
  • Is a Labrador Retriever a Crossbred dog?
Labrador Retrievers are a distinct breed and are not a mix between a Labrador and a Golden Retriever. The term "Retriever" indicates that they belong to the Gundog group, originally bred to retrieve game birds for the English aristocracy. Labrador Retrievers come in three recognised colours: Black, Yellow, and Chocolate. The chocolate variety can range in colour from milk chocolate to dark chocolate. The Labrador Retriever Standard is the official document describing the desired appearance, traits, and behaviours of a purebred Labrador.
  • How much does a Monnybrook Labrador Puppy cost?
When considering the purchase of a puppy, it's crucial not to let the price deter you from investing in a well-bred companion. Before making your decision, think about the benefits of choosing a responsible registered breeder who is affiliated with Dogs Australia (ANKC) and complies with key federal and state regulations, such as The Animal Welfare Code of Practice for Breeding Dogs (2023) and the Queensland Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Breeding Dogs and Their Progeny (2018). Dedicated ethical breeders are passionate about their dogs' well-being. They invest considerable time and resources to ensure each furry friend thrives in a healthy and happy environment. Their commitment goes beyond breeding; it’s a labour of love, and every pup receives the care and attention it deserves! Here at Monnybrook, our dogs receive regular veterinary check-ups, preventative treatments for worms and fleas are administered, and we invest in DNA testing for our breeding dogs. This helps to reduce the risk of various genetic issues, such as progressive retinal atrophy (PRA)—a genetic condition that can lead to blindness—in our puppies. However, throwbacks from previous generations may occasionally occur. Our commitment to health extends to hip and elbow scoring, which offers insight into potential future health concerns like hip dysplasia. However, proper diet and exercise significantly affect puppy development and will later impact a dog's well-being. Throughout the breeding process, we collaborate closely with veterinarians from the Reproduction Team at Queensland Veterinary Specialists in Stafford, Brisbane. This comprehensive approach allows us to achieve the best possible outcomes for your future puppy’s well-being, ensuring you invest in a healthy and happy companion.
